Family Matters: how parent-child relationships support learning

We know that a parent’s support for their child’s education matters (Sylva et al 2010) but what does this look like in practice, whether at home or in partnership with school? In this exploratory workshop we will think about what we mean by the ‘home learning environment’ and the ways in which the relationships in our family can provide the foundation for good emotional and mental health.

BEA STEVENSON

Bio

Bea has three young children whose curiosity and individuality ensure that she continues to contemplate the way we conceptualise education. As a Primary teacher, and subsequently directing Teach First’s work in East London, Bea became interested in school culture and the importance of staff wellbeing to support learning.
